Thomas Dean
Tom holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, as well as an M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He began his professional career in the US Army where he served first as a Signals Intelligence Officer, and later was a pioneering member of the Cyberwarfare Branch. During his time in service, he supported the NSA, FBI, and other national agencies, where reversed engineered complex software and communication protocols, often re-implementing various layers of the protocol stack, to support intelligence collection and Computer Network Operations. He also supported counterintelligence and law enforcement investigations of computer intrusions inside the United States and government networks.
Tom's academic work has focused on the fields of wireless communications, information theory, and cryptography. His Ph.D. was supervised by Prof. Andrea Goldsmith. He is an expert in the fields of post-quantum cryptography, physical-layer protocols and design for wireless systems, and data compression algorithms. His graduate studies were funded by the highly prestigious and selective Fannie and John Hertz Fellowship.
